Fresh Nature Foods has established a production model which allows us to develop our products through sustainable agricultural practices. Garbanzo beans are good for crop rotations as they help reduce the carbon footprint by conserving valuable natural resources such as water.

In comparison, the green garbanzo beans used in our Green Chickpea Hummus use a fraction of the water demanded from a crop like potatoes. Where a typical potato crop will demand 2 ½ – 3 ½ ft of water per acre, garbanzos only require a mere 6 – 12 inches of water throughout the entire growing season. Their deep tap root allows the crop to seek deep moisture while also helping to penetrate the hard pan allowing for increased water percolation later in the wet season. Garbanzos growers use a decreased number of commercial chemicals applied to the crop, never having to use harmful insecticides to protect from pests. Finally, as a natural nitrogen fixing legume, garbanzos put valuable nitrogen back into the soil depleted by other commodities. These growing characteristics make garbanzo beans an extremely valuable rotation crop.
